Abstract: Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, announced that Old Dominion University in Virginia has decided to adopt the Ex Libris Alma resource management solution and the Primo discovery solution, which will replace the university’s Innovative Interfaces Sierra Library Services Platform and EBSCO Discovery Service.

Chicago, IL—December 29, 2015. Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that Old Dominion University (ODU) in Virginia has decided to adopt the Ex Libris Alma resource management solution and the Primo discovery solution, which will replace the university's Innovative Interfaces Sierra Library Services Platform and EBSCO Discovery Service.

With the improvement in technologies and the emergence of innovative approaches in higher education, ODU found that its libraries could not handle new kinds of tasks and were thus failing to meet the needs of the university community. Designed around the management of print materials, the libraries' software was not suited to the management of electronic resources, which constitute an increasing percentage of the resources purchased by the university.

At the same time, ODU sought a discovery system that would enable students and faculty to search all of the university's collections from a single interface. The sophisticated Primo search and ranking technology, intuitive browsing options, and support for serendipitous discovery will enable users to easily find and seamlessly access the resources they need.

"Through our selection process, which looked at all options in this arena, we determined that Ex Libris Alma and Primo offered the greatest potential for us to resolve issues in and around our current system, while also providing a framework in which to evolve the way we manage the life-cycle of information resources," University Librarian George J. Fowler commented. "Additionally, the solutions' ability to integrate with Ellucian Banner will greatly improve workflow, communication, and accountability with our partners on campus. Finally, being able to connect with other Alma users in a significant way, will help change the way we and our users view "our" collections and can lead to increased collaboration across institutions. I am excited for the Libraries to take advantage of the opportunities this change will provide."

Eric Hines, president of Ex Libris North America, remarked: "We are pleased to welcome Old Dominion University to the Alma and Primo communities. With a philosophy based on productive knowledge and research-driven solutions, ODU is sure to benefit from the ease of access to knowledge and resources our innovative library solutions will provide. Like many other universities and research organizations, ODU will soon realize the value of unified discovery and library management in enabling their libraries to achieve their objectives and helping the wider institution accomplish its broad academic goals."
