August 13, 2015 -- Emeryville, CA. Innovative announced today that the second set of REST (REpresentational State Transfer) APIs (Application Programming Interface) for the Sierra Library Services Platform is now in general release. As with the initial API release, Sierra API Release 2.0 provides access to Sierra data and metadata, allowing libraries and commercial partners to create seamless integrations and applications that benefit library patrons and staff. The new release provides transactional APIs for managing holds and patron accounts. In addition, Release 2.0 expands data access to include branch information and authority records. Interactive and reference documentation for this release is available on the recently-launched Innovative developer sandbox at http://sandbox.iii.com/docs.
In an effort to make it easier for libraries to be more agile and responsive to their staff and patrons, Sierra API Release 2.0 will be bundled free of charge for library use with Sierra 2.0 Service Pack 3. This makes the upcoming latest release of Sierra development-ready and gives every Sierra library immediate and open access to the Sierra APIs.
"These new Sierra REST APIs will empower libraries to serve patron needs exactly as they see fit," says Leif Pedersen, SVP of Product Management, R&D, and Marketing. "We've worked closely with our library partners to deliver a set of APIs that offer ample opportunities to create new applications and integrations. Libraries that take advantage of Sierra REST APIs will be able to provide an outstanding user experience even as user expectations change and the technology landscape continues to evolve."
Due to the strong demand for this offering, Sierra API Release 2.0 will be made available to customers on request beginning with Sierra 2.0 Service Pack 2 (now in general release). It will be fully-bundled with Sierra 2.0 Service Pack 3 planned for the third quarter of 2015.
