Abstract: Barrington Community Unit 220 School District in northwest Illinois faced a dilemma familiar to many pre-K12 districts: It was poised to begin the initial phases of a 1:1 transformation but knew it first must have an effective and efficient software system in place to track and manage all of the digital devices it was distributing.

MCHENRY, Ill., Aug. 4, 2015 – Barrington Community Unit 220 School District in northwest Illinois faced a dilemma familiar to many pre-K12 districts: It was poised to begin the initial phases of a 1:1 transformation but knew it first must have an effective and efficient software system in place to track and manage all of the digital devices it was distributing.

"This was a huge transition for our district, and we knew we needed to protect and make the most of our investment in the devices we were giving to kids," said LeeAnn Taylor, district media services director for Barrington CUSD.

Barrington chose Follett Destiny Resource Manager as its system to help deploy 1:1 rollouts of laptops and tablets, as well as manage all educational, administrative and facility resources. Barrington's phased roll out began with its middle and high schools.

This week, Follett officially launches Destiny Resource Manager into the marketplace as part of the company's Destiny 13.0 release.

"Follett Destiny Resource Manager supports student learning by getting the right resources in the right hands at the right time for the right purpose," said Bruce Hamilton, program director, Follett. "It supports both print and digital learning environments, and provides administrators the data they need to ensure accountability to secure resources and to make accurate fact-based budgeting and purchasing decisions based on use, condition and demand."

Barrington's 1:1 transition continues this upcoming school year. "With Follett Destiny Resource Manager in place, we are easily able to track the number of devices remaining in each building so we can transfer as needed rather than purchasing new ones," Taylor said. "Not only does Destiny keep track of all of our valuable assets, it helps us generate reports, manage inventories and accurately order more equipment."

For school districts today, Hamilton emphasized the importance of administrative accountability. "It's about being efficient and being able to demonstrate how tax dollars are used to buy only what they need, share what they have, and repurpose what remains," he said. "By assigning accountability for resources, saving money is a natural result."

Beyond devices, Follett Destiny Resource Manager manages all resources for students, including textbooks, STEM resources, band instruments, sports equipment, and for teachers/staff, including computers, audio-visual equipment and professional development services.
