BETHLEHEM, Pa., April 21, 2015 Compelled by strong demand from libraries and publishers for flexible, customized solutions, Backstage Library Works (www.bslw.com) has expanded its metadata services division with a second location now operating in their preservation service center in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

The new branch of metadata services is working in conjunction with the center's digitization and microfilming departments, providing libraries increased options in consulting, microfilming, digitization, capture, derivatives, OCR, metadata and full cataloging services. Metadata formats include structural, technical, administrative, preservation, descriptive and publisher metadata. Backstage also offers Eastern libraries a convenient pickup and delivery service for materials requiring special handling and allows publishers to drop-ship materials in need of shelf-ready processing.

Expert in a multitude of languages, Backstage's metadata services team creates and manages records for diverse media, including new books, rare antique volumes, vinyl records, sheet music, electronic titles. Services include:

  • Full service cataloging
  • Non-English language cataloging
  • Automated cataloging
  • Copy and original cataloging
  • RDA-ready authority control
  • RDA enrichment for AACR2 records
  • Validation and enrichment for existing RDA records
  • Rich GMD to CMC mapping
  • Custom programming and data processing
  • Reclassification
  • Retrospective Conversion
  • Shelf-ready physical processing

Nicole Arbuckle, vice president of metadata services for Backstage states:

"The tremendous reception we've had for our metadata services from institutions in the Eastern United States confirms the need for expansion. Growing the team into our preservation studios in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania was a logical next step. We are now better equipped to serve existing and new clients with more customized solutions. This includes providing Eastern libraries a pickup and delivery service for materials that would otherwise be too fragile to ship."
