INWOOD, W.Va. (Jan. 13, 2015) – The library entrusted to serve the military personnel and their families at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland has enlisted TLC to provide its automation services. Personnel with the 11th Force Support Squadron, which operates the library at the U.S. Air Force facility near Washington, D.C., recently contracted with The Library Corporation to serve base residents with the Library.Solution ILS.
Joint Base Andrews, created by the 2009 merger of Andrews Air Force Base and Naval Air Facility Washington, is perhaps best known for serving as the home base for two Boeing aircraft that have the call sign Air Force One when they are transporting the U.S. president. The base is also a residential community comprised of approximately 3,000 military personnel and family members. An important part of that community is the Andrews Air Force Base Library, which offers borrowers more than 35,000 books, eBooks, DVDs, video games, magazines, and more. The library also has a computer lab, dedicated areas for young children and teens, and special activities for base residents.
This is the second time that Joint Base Andrews has partnered with TLC. In 2012 the library migrated to a different automation system due to reorganization, but following two years of unsatisfactory service with their new vendor, the library lobbied to reinstate TLC and Library.Solution was re-installed in September 2014. The system is now up and running with catalogs that showcase the library's diverse collection and encourage borrowers to discover new authors and genres.
The Library Corporation, a GSA-certified company, has operated continuously under the same ownership since its creation in 1974. Its automation and cataloging solutions are utilized by more than 4,500 libraries worldwide including Chicago Public Schools; Los Angeles Public Library; Ealing, Hammersmith, and West London College in the United Kingdom; Wellington City Libraries in New Zealand; the Ministry of Education in Singapore; and the American Embassy of Ethiopia and Madagascar.
