San Francisco, CA (Seybold Seminar) August 29, 2000: OverDrive, Inc. (www.overdrive.com) announced today that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) has authorized OverDrive to provide eBook copyright protection solutions to the eBook marketplace based upon Digital Asset Server (DAS) technologies by Microsoft. Under the terms of the agreement OverDrive will provide eBook resellers, publishers, and content portals copyright protection services to secure, sell and protect their Microsoft Reader eBooks.

Powells, the world's largest independently owned bookstore located in Portland, Oregon, will be one of the first to utilize a DAS solution under this agreement. Powells.com will utilize OverDrive's MIDAS Technology which is an easy to deploy application for adding Microsoft DAS to a booksellers website. OverDrive is demonstrating MIDAS Technology at Seybold SF in booth# 3905, a leading trade show for eBook technology.

"MIDAS Technology provides an easy and affordable means to add secure, DAS-based digital rights management to a website or online bookstore," stated Steve Potash OverDrive president. OverDrive also offers e-commerce solutions for eBook catalogs, inventory management, real-time credit card processing, and shopping cart applications. OverDrive's online content management portals provide secure deployment strategies for businesses of all sizes. "We've made it very affordable to implement DAS server solutions no matter what size your company may be," stated Steve Potash, OverDrive president.

"As the largest independently owned bookstore in the world, we are expanding our services to our customers by adding Microsoft(R) Reader eBooks to our new, used, rare, electronic and out of print book titles," according to Darin Sennett, director of technology and design for Powells.com. "To directly install DAS requires significant investment in new server hardware and software technology. What MIDAS provides is permit us to add the benefits of a DAS solution to our existing online bookstore without the large investment in new equipment and without interruption to our website," Sennett added. In addition, Sennett stated, "It's a real pleasure working with everyone at OverDrive. They are customer oriented and have a genuine love of books," he added.
