Centennial, CO – November 18, 2013 – Colorado Library Consortium (CLiC), a statewide library cooperative serving more than 400 members, and Innovative Interfaces, a recognized leader in library automation software, announced today that they have signed an agreement to make SkyRiver bibliographic services available to libraries throughout Colorado.
Under the terms of the agreement, CLiC will now be able to offer SkyRiver to individual member libraries, providing a low-cost, high-quality cataloging alternative. In addition, CLiC and Innovative will be implementing SkyRiver for AspenCat – a union catalog of almost 800,000 items shared by 48 public, academic, school, and special libraries in the state.
"I am pleased and excited that CLiC will now be able to give Colorado libraries a choice in cataloging systems," says Jim Duncan, Executive Director of CLiC. "When it comes to library cataloging, one size definitely does not fit all, and there has been a real need for a robust, affordable solution like SkyRiver in the Colorado library community."
"For AspenCat, the implementation of SkyRiver will be a significant step in the maturation of our system, including a comprehensive audit and upgrade of existing cataloging records," says Duncan. "Discovery and access begins with high-quality records, so the introduction of SkyRiver as a source of records will measurably improve how patrons and students find great library resources through AspenCat."
"We're delighted to be working in partnership with a dynamic organization like CLiC to provide SkyRiver cataloging to libraries in Colorado," says Tom Jacobson, Innovative's Director of Resource Sharing. "All of us at Innovative look forward to working closely with the CLiC staff to serve and support their member libraries in the implementation of SkyRiver."
"While SkyRiver will be available to all of our members, I believe it will be especially attractive to small and mid-sized libraries that have not been able to afford such services," says Duncan. CLiC also will be providing training and on-the-ground support for Colorado libraries that license SkyRiver. "For the first time many of these libraries will be in a position to get serious about their cataloging and ensure the quality of their cataloging records. We're going to be there to help them," Duncan says.
