News from library automation vendors active in the Netherlands: 2002

Abstract: The Dutch library scene is, as always, changing rapidly with some new names replacing long established ones and an ongoing reshuffling is taking place all the time. The NBLC is promoting at present a kind of certification for library automation software sold to public libraries, incl. Provincial Library Centres (PBC) and so far certifications have been given to Bicat (HKA), SunRise (SISIS) and VUBIS (Geac). Rejected have been many others (by surprise): Bibliobyte, Concerto, PICA LBS, Q-be and Datapoint (went bankrupt last year). New market entrants cannot easily get certification, as no open procedure exists, leaving out successful companies like LIB-IT with LIBERO, represented by DILITES in the Netherlands and DYNIX, which wants to start marketing their systems in the Netherlands again.
