ANAHEIM, Calif., June 22, 2012. Comprise Technologies, a leading independent provider of technology access and revenue management solutions for libraries throughout North America, and Polaris Library Systems, a trusted provider of technology solutions that help public, private and academic libraries serve their communities, today announced a strategic partnership that will integrate the Comprise SmartPAY Merchant Service Program (MSP) with the Polaris Integrated Library System (ILS). Now, libraries that use Polaris servers to host their ILS can allow their patrons to make fine or donation payments directly from the library's public access catalog (PAC).
Comprise' SmartPAY is an online payment solution that links with libraries' existing SIP2 so payments are automatically posted to patron accounts. Polaris is integrating SmartPAY MSP via its application programming interface (API), so that patrons will be able to use their credit or debit cards to make fines and fees or donation payments, all through the library's PAC, at any time, day or night. With SmartPAY, those payments will be posted in real time to patrons' accounts.
"This integration is a real benefit for Polaris hosted customers," said Steven Nielsen, vice president of product management, Polaris. "We looked at the cost and difficulty in making our own hosted e-commerce solution PCI DSS compliant, and we recognized that doing so would prove too costly for our customers. Partnering with Comprise gives our hosted customers a very easy, cost-effective option for online payment management."
The PCI DSS, or Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, is an information security standard that organizations handling cardholder data must adhere to when developing products that collect this information. There are several requirements under the standard, and meeting them can be difficult and costly. SmartPAY meets the PCI DSS standard and current state privacy regulations, as well as the security requirements of every major card processor and financial institution.
"We applaud Polaris for recognizing the need to partner with a company whose business is payment management, because we can offer their hosted customers a secure, cost-effective solution," said Richard Hill, of Comprise Technologies. "Our MSP solution provides more than security, it means that Polaris libraries won't have to worry about PCI compliance, or take on that burden themselves."
Polaris and Comprise will be working on the integration this summer and expect to be able to offer it to Polaris hosted customers in the fall of this year. However, attendees at the American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference in Anaheim, Calif., can discuss the integration with staff at the Polaris booth, number 738, or with staff at the Comprise booth, number 2240, from June 22-25, 2012.
