February 6, 2012 -- Emeryville, CA. Innovative Interfaces announced today that it has partnered with Relais International to integrate Innovative's Millennium Circulation with Relais' D2D at twelve partner libraries. The joint implementation allows for quicker processing of requested items by patrons and improves resource-sharing workflow for library staff.
Patrons can log into Relais D2D Discovery and conduct a search across multiple partner catalogs. Once an item is requested, Millennium and Relais communicate using NCIP (NISO Circulation Interchange Protocol) to share circulation information and complete the transaction.
For received items, Millennium will automatically create a virtual item record, place a hold for the patron, put the item on the hold shelf, and queue a hold pickup notice. The resource sharing workflow is seamlessly and automatically processed in fewer steps with less staff involvement, so patrons can get requested items on the hold shelf more quickly.
The libraries have reported that the transition to Relais D2D has been a smooth process with new training at a minimum. Says Eric Leckbee, Product Manager at Innovative: "Our partner libraries report that integration has been easy with Relais D2D retaining its current workflow and Millennium's workflow improving as a number of steps have been eliminated. The entire resource-sharing process has been simplified while retaining most of the existing workflow that staff are already familiar with."
