Abstract: Lund University Libraries, one of Sweden’s oldest and largest research libraries, has launched the Summon service as the primary starting point for research on its website.

Lund University Libraries, one of Sweden's oldest and largest research libraries, has launched the Summon service as the primary starting point for research on its website.

"We look forward to working with Serials Solutions and are impressed at how quickly and smoothly it has been possible to implement the Summon service. It means a lot for users to have immediate access to our extensive electronic resources," says Christel Smith, Head of Digital Library at Lund University.

Lund University Libraries (LUB) is a network consisting of 30 faculty, departmental and centre libraries in Lund, Malmö and Helsingborg, with a collection consisting of more than 15,000 e-journals and 500 databases as well as e-books, dictionaries and encyclopaedias. Lund University is also the first Swedish institute of higher education with an Open Access policy which actively promotes the development and dissemination of scientific information within the Open Access movement. The University plays a leading role in providing free online access to scientific information and the Summon service aligns with this mission. The Summon unified index contains more than 35 Open Access repositories and more than 90 institutional repositories and digital collections from customers and other sources and the service is openly available for searching without authentication.

Recognized as the Best Enterprise Search Solution at the 2011 CODiE Awards by the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), the Summon service offers the most compelling user experience by providing the most full-text searchable content in a single unified index. Summon searches across more than 800 million records which are optimized for discovery using an exclusive match and merge process for content ingestion. This allows the Summon service to return a single, unified result set and provides users with unparalleled options for scoping searches and navigating across large results sets.
