OCLC PICA is pleased to announce that, on November 11th, the management of the Groningen University Library has accepted the order and subscription registration module ACQ, and the lending module OUS of the entirely renewed OCLC PICA local library system LBS4.
OCLC PICA has decided to renew and adapt the former Pica local library system thus that optimum use can be made of the userfriendliness and efficiency offered by a web interface.
The new LBS4-system is split-up in a number of modules of which the OPAC, the lending and the acquisitions module are the most important. Users can decide whether to use the LBS-cataloguing module or to use the Local Library System fully integrated with the OCLC PICA Cataloguing System (GGC). On top of that, the OCLC PICA Local Library System offers the facility to participate in another than the OCLC PICA Cataloguing System, to which the Local System's modules - tailored to the user's wishes and requirements - can link seamlessly.
Staff of the Groningen University Library participated in the Project Board for LBS4. They have been actively involved in the LBS4 development from the very start. As experienced users of the former generation of local library systems they have contributed many a valuable suggestion. So it was not a surprising that Groningen was elected for the pilot implementation of LBS4. The implementation project was carried out in conformity with the Prince2-method for project management.
Having reached this milestone, OCLC PICA will - in the months to come - carry on the migration of the other LBS3 systems to LBS4.
