Mr Joris E.J. van Bergen president of OCLC PICA Supervisory Board

Abstract: On August 1st, 2003 Mr Joris E.J. van Bergen was appointed chairman of the Supervisory Board of OCLC PICA B.V. Mr Van Bergen was appointed on behalf of the Pica Foundation, of which he also was appointed chairman as per August 1st, 2003. In both functions, he succeeds Dr C. Datema who has been a member of the Pica Supervisory Board since October 1st, 1996 and has been its chairman since July 1st, 1998.


On August 1st, 2003 Mr Joris E.J. van Bergen was appointed chairman of the Supervisory Board of OCLC PICA B.V. Mr Van Bergen was appointed on behalf of the Pica Foundation, of which he also was appointed chairman as per August 1st, 2003. In both functions, he succeeds Dr C. Datema who has been a member of the Pica Supervisory Board since October 1st, 1996 and has been its chairman since July 1st, 1998.

Other members of the Supervisory Board are Mr Jay J. Jordan, President and Chief Executive Officer of OCLC Inc. and Mr Rick J. Schwieterman, Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer of OCLC Inc. The Pica Foundation owns 40% of the shares in OCLC PICA B.V.; OCLC Inc owns 60%.

Mr Van Bergen studied technical physics at the Delft Polytechnic; subsequently he qualified as a management consultant at SIOO. He worked for seven years with Philips Electronics in Eindhoven: first as a systems analyst and next as a management consultant. After that he worked in public service, in the Dutch Ministry of Education and for the local authorities of two municipalities. In October 1991, he was appointed a member of the Board of Governors of the Technical University Eindhoven. Since September 1997 he holds his present position as deputy chairman of the Board of Governors of Leiden University. His portfolio holds finance, ICT, human resources and organisation and facility management.

Besides, since May 2002, he is chairman of the SURF foundation, in which Dutch universities and research institutions in the field of ICT cooperate.
