ST PAUL, Minn. – February 24, 2011 – The Johnson County Library in Overland Park, Kansas, has selected 3M to implement RFID solutions in their 13 branches serving a population of 421,500.
Johnson County Library began investing in 3M SelfCheck Systems in the late 1990s, and after recently deciding to invest in RFID technology for item circulation and security, the District selected 3M as having the solution that best meets its needs.
The library will begin the implementation of the 3M RFID System in July. The project includes upgrading current 3M SelfCheck Systems to incorporate RFID, adding 3M SelfCheck System R-Series units for patron self-checkout and tagging the collection of over 1 million items with the 3M Conversion Station. In addition, the library plans to purchase at least two 3M Intelligent Return and Sorter Systems Model FX before the end of 2011.
According to Erica Reynolds, Information Technology Manager for Johnson County Library, "Our priority was to identify an affordable RFID system with exceptional out-of-the-box functionality, quality, in-person support and user-friendly interfaces for patrons and staff. 3M delivered on all counts and exceeded our expectations." Reynolds continued, "3M has the best RFID equipment and most patron- and staff-friendly software. User experience is paramount for us, and 3M products come with out-of-the-box defaults that are well-tested and user-friendly for staff and patrons alike. "
Johnson County Library uses a SirsiDynix ILS and has an annual circulation of close to 7 million items.
