Emmaus Bible College Library in Sydney, Australia has chosen CALYX information essentials to upgrade its Koha integrated library management system and to provide hosting services. Emmaus contracted for software upgrade, data services and hosting. Data services included the reconstruction of holdings records in conjunction with transfer of the MARC data. The new system is currently running Koha 3.0.5 and is being hosted in CALYX’ state of the art data centre.
Emmaus is a Member Institute of the Sydney College of Divinity and has been offering opportunities for theological study since the early 1950s. The College is devoted to providing a challenging and rewarding Bible training experience that equips students for both their chosen career path and a life of service. The library collection holds over 11,000 books, 120 journals and two on-line data bases and resources are made available to students and interested readers locally, interstate and overseas. It also maintains and develops a collection of Brethren writings and archival material dating back to the beginnings of the Brethren movement in the late 1820s. Emmaus first implemented the Koha library management system in 2007 and the recent upgrade was completed in May 2010.
According to Emmaus’ librarian Elizabeth Webb, "We chose CALYX for their expertise in Koha and for their broad perspective on library management issues. Whilst we were happy with the computer services offered by our previous hosting provider, the opportunity to access a consultant librarian with extensive experience in Koha implementation and data cleaning was a key driver of our decision."
