Leiden/Trondheim, 16 January 2005 – OCLC PICA is pleased to announce that BIBSYS, a library information systems provider to over 100 libraries in Norway, has chosen OCLC PICA as supplier for web-based library portals to a consortium formed by part of the BIBSYS libraries. BIBSYS will use the Elektra search portal in conjunction with TDNet’s TOUResolver, Journal Manager and Knowledge Base.

OCLC PICA co-tendered with TDNet as subcontractor in order to fulfil the requirements of a search portal and a link portal. For the search portals, OCLC PICA offered Elektra, which has become part of the OCLC PICA portfolio since the acquisition of Sisis Informationssysteme last year. The cooperation with TDNet made it possible to offer TDNet’s TOUResolver and Journal Manager in this portal solution. Combining Elektra with TOUResolver and Journal Manager provides a complete package.

BIBSYS’ decision in favour of OCLC PICA and TDNet’s integrated offer was based on general technical requirements, consortium requirements, application requirements, price and other, non-technical requirements. The OCLC PICA offer was chosen as the one with the best price to performance ratio, all factors taken into consideration. "We are very happy that we can now supply a large number of the BIBSYS libraries with a library portal." says Roy Gundersen, director of BIBSYS. "We look forward to implementing the portal in close cooperation with OCLC PICA and TDNet."

Elektra is a component system for creation of information portals - user-friendly, easily manageable, expandable and using modern technology. It can be deployed as a standalone information portal as well as in combination with any OPAC system or other information services.

TDNet TOUResolver is a NISO-compliant software package that reflects a library’s preferences and requirements for OpenURL context-sensitive linking from reference databases to full text of OpenURL and non-OpenURL target resources. TDNet’s Journal Manager complements TOUResolver, providing a Knowledge Base as well as an A-Z web journal locator including EToC and personal profiling. TDNet’s proprietary Knowledge Base currently sustains and constantly updates metadata of over 100,000 unique titles, soon to significantly grow to encompass eBooks as well.

With the winning of this tender, OCLC PICA proves the success of its strategy of building a strong team with acquisitions and partners in order to provide the best possible service.
