VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – February 2, 2010 – Atlas Systems, the leading provider of time-saving solutions for libraries, announced today that the company has joined the InCommon Federation as a sponsored partner. Atlas’ membership ensures that Ares and Aeon customers who participate in InCommon will benefit from the ability to share library resources in a protected environment. InCommon eliminates the need for researchers, students, and educators to maintain multiple passwords and usernames, and for online service providers to maintain user accounts.

"Atlas Systems is committed to helping libraries achieve greater workflow efficiency and enhance service to their users," said Curtis Poston, Atlas Systems’ Software Development Manager. "By participating in InCommon we are making it easier for Ares e-reserves and Aeon special collections customers to manage end user authentication and for end users to access our services by using the same ID and password they use for other campus online resources."

According to Stu Baker, Associate University Librarian for Library Technology at Northwestern University, "Atlas’ willingness to join the InCommon Federation will save us a significant investment in up-front development work, and it will make ongoing support and maintenance much easier. Atlas’ participation in the federation will make Shibboleth integration easier for Northwestern and any other Atlas customer who is a member of the InCommon Federation. Ultimately it will help us provide a tightly integrated and secure suite of services for our patrons. We are very pleased that Atlas is joining the InCommon Federation." Northwestern University sponsored Atlas Systems’ membership in InCommon.
