IPSWICH, Mass. — July 9, 2009 — EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO) has entered into an agreement with Ex Libris Group, a leading provider of automation solutions for academic, national, and research libraries, that provides key technology support for accessing the catalogs of the Voyager and Aleph integrated library systems as well as other software services provided by Ex Libris via the EBSCOhost experience. Mutual users will be able to access both catalog and database content in a single interface.

EBSCOhost is one of the most heavily used research platforms. The easy-to-use features and functionality found in EBSCOhost provide a simple and intuitive starting place. The EBSCOhost platform has grown to include EBSCOhost Integrated Search (EHIS), as well as the EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS). Users of these new services will benefit from the tight integration with Ex Libris products installed at major universities and research institutions worldwide.

EBSCO Publishing Chief Information Officer Michael Gorrell says the ability to integrate will benefit all mutual customers. "Ex Libris is a real leader in the library automation industry, and we are extremely happy to be working closely with them to enable tight integration of their products with EBSCO’s products. Whether using harvesting mechanisms, or runtime access to determine holdings status, or other Deep API technology, we feel like this agreement will enable us to provide superior solutions for our customers that use great Ex Libris products like Voyager, Aleph, the Primo discovery and delivery solution, and the SFX OpenURL link resolver."

Ex Libris Chief Strategy Officer Oren Beit-Arie says, "The EBSCOhost platform has established a leading position in the industry with its innovative technology and quality of service. We are pleased to be collaborating with EBSCO to provide our customers with a range of new solutions to meet their research needs."

EBSCOhost Integrated Search is able to simultaneously search EBSCO databases along with all other electronic resources, including OPACs, publisher packages and resources from other database aggregators.

EBSCO Discovery Service will provide libraries with a single, simple entry point for research and launch users into the entire array of a library’s collection. Powered by the EBSCOhost platform, the new discovery service will enable users to search a wide-ranging collection of metadata and link quickly to the content to which they have rights. EBSCO Discovery Service will allow for "local" access to the metadata associated with 300+ databases, e-journals from more than 400 publishers, and additional resources from other partners.
