Founded by current President and CEO, John Yokley, PTFS has proudly served libraries, information centers, and cultural organizations since its inception. During this time, PTFS has maintained a consistent multi-faceted corporate mission - enhance information access through content conversion; support library programs by integrating emerging technologies; advance collection maintenance with digital management. To better achieve these goals, PTFS created its flagship software ArchivalWare.
"One of the reasons I founded the company was due to my belief that there would be a digital information explosion and there would be a need to convert physical collections that could be managed as easily as their new digital counterpart," said Mr. Yokley. He continued, "Methods of document preservation such as microfilm have become unmanageable as millions of pages of paper are filmed but cannot be searched or electronically managed. While PTFS initially concentrated on the management of digital content it has become clear that libraries need a seamless solution to manage bibliographic and digital collections from a single application. The integration of ArchivalWare with Koha will provide libraries with 100% of their automation needs to manage digital and physical collections well into the future."
Staying true to this type of innovation and customer commitment, PTFS is developing a new product, ArchivalWare Next_Generation DLS. The DLS integrates open source ILS tools from Koha with PTFS ArchivalWare digital content management software to provide a single practical solution to support 100% of the library's automation requirements at a cost that libraries can afford! Libraries will be able to acquire, describe, circulate, and maintain both print and digital collections from a single application. PTFS will be unveiling the DLS discovery layer at the SLA Annual Conference in Washington, D.C.
PTFS has recently been welcomed into the Koha ILS User Community as a contributing development partner to support the advancement of the Koha ILS. PTFS provides a variety of services around the Koha open source ILS solution - full implementation, software development, maintenance and hosting.
Digital content management is an integral part of society. The exponential growth of digital information in the world has mandated that software tools be developed to manage and preserve this information. It's for this reason that PTFS continues to strive to do its part to expand the capability of our ArchivalWare software suite to support larger, more diverse digital collections, as well as to integrate new digital preservation technologies.
