Birmingham, Ala., USA – June 9, 2009 – EBSCO today announced that it has expanded the availability of its newest collection management tool―E-Package Renewals on EBSCONET® ―to include additional publishers as well as library customers around the globe. The tool can reduce the time libraries spend on e-package renewals from weeks to just a few hours.

Developed in collaboration with most of the major scientific, technical and medical publishers, E-Package Renewals significantly improves the efficiency of the e-package renewal process for library staff. It addresses time-consuming and challenging problems associated with the e-package renewal process such as gathering and maintaining the information required to manage individual licenses, identifying inconsistencies in library and publisher records, managing capped pricing, and tracking titles as they move between publisher collections.

Rebecca Day, manager of e-resource services development at EBSCO, said, "While EBSCO has provided customers with hands-on assistance in renewing their e-journal collections for many years, E-Package Renewals is a more efficient, streamlined solution. This all-inclusive approach to displaying key license and collection details, along with a simple interface for modifying and approving package title lists, will significantly reduce the number of manual processes that library staff often perform today."

E-Package Renewals helps librarians make the most of today’s shrinking budgets and resources. In addition to reducing the time spent on the renewal of licensed e-journal collections from several weeks to just a few hours, E-Package Renewals provides many other customer benefits, including:

  • System-enforced contract terms to ensure subscriptions are renewed correctly
  • Line-item-level pricing for package components, customized per contract terms where applicable
  • System customization for multi-library campuses and consortia
  • Readily available renewal information eliminates multiple spreadsheets and lengthy e-mail chains
  • Single Web interface for making format and title changes based on contract terms, with ability to view real-time impact on spending

With a dedicated support team to assist with questions about the renewal process, the E-Package Renewals service is available to EBSCO customers at no charge.
