Professor M.M. ‘Thijs’ Chanowski, founder of Medialab Solutions - the Dutch market leader in library search solutions - officially retired on Friday, May 27, after over four decades of work in the entertainment, computing and research realms. The theory behind ‘Discover’, part of the AquaBrowser’s design principles, is one that best reflects Professor Chanowski’s motivations. From the beginning of his career - discovering and learning new information has permeated throughout his undertakings. During his career, he mixed the roles of academic, producer, director, and researcher.
Professor Chanowski is probably best known for producing the famed Dutch family television series, ‘de Fabeltjeskrant’, amongst other series, and direction of several Dutch films. He later co-developed the first interactive laser-disks, cds and cd-roms in 1972 while consulting for BSO Philips.
In 1990 Professor Chanowski started Medialab Solutions as a multi-media research facility. This facility eventually developed the AquaBrowser search solutions for libraries, corporations and specialized institutions and became heavily present in the world-wide library market since 2003, thus evolving from a research facility into a library software solution provider. There are now millions of AquaBrowser users everyday – in over 60% of the libraries in The Netherlands, across Europe, Asia and now spreading quickly across the United States.
As a token of appreciation, the Medialab Crew presented Professor Chanowski with an electric/ acoustic upright bass. Playing the bass daily for many years, Professor Chanowski is also a true acoustic jazz connoisseur.
