June 24, 2008 -- Emeryville, CA. Innovative announced today that the company and its development partners are at work on Version 3.0 of the Encore discovery services platform. Encore 3.0 expands the user experience with new features and product-integration points such as harvested digital collections, federated-search integration, user ratings and reviews, Pathfinder Pro context-sensitive links, and more.
To extend the ability of Encore to bring all library content together, Encore customers will be able to display OAI-PMH-compliant digital information with catalog results using Encore harvesting tools. Version 3.0 also includes commitment to working with already installed discovery tools by providing integration of federated search products WebFeat and MetaLib. Community Reviews and Patron Ratings, available for years in the Millennium WebPAC, are coming to Encore and supplement the Community Tagging feature available in Version 2.0. Pathfinder Pro will provide context-sensitive links to library-selected resources based on user queries and item metadata to guide users to the best possible answer to their queries.
"Encore continues to grow as a tool that truly brings it all together for patrons," says Senior Product Manager Dinah Sanders. "With harvested digital content to present local and specialized collections and the ability for local users to contribute tags to help describe those materials, Encore 3.0 highlights the value that the library brings to its community. We thank our development partners for their passion for this initiative and their desire to bring new capabilities to their patrons as quickly as possible."
Additional Encore 3.0 features in development during 2008 will include:
- Research Pro Select (Additional-cost, basic federated search product)
- Enriched content expanded to include Content Café
- Encore as discovery tool for INN-Reach resource-sharing databases
- Usage statistics
- New facets
- Alternate designs
- and more!
Encore is now in general release at dozens of libraries, including the first group of libraries using Encore 2.0: Santa Clara University (CA), Scottsdale Public Library (AZ), University of Glasgow (Scotland), University of Queensland (Australia). To date, libraries have deployed Encore with Aleph, Unicorn, Voyager, and Innovative's Millennium ILS systems.
