ATHENS, OH--March 26, 2008--LibLime, the leader in open-source solutions for libraries, announced today that Santa Cruz Public Library in California USA, has selected LibLime's Koha ZOOM Appliance solution as the library's next integrated library system. Koha is the first and most advanced open-source integrated library system.
Santa Cruz County Public Library (SCPL) has a central library and 9 branches, and boasts an annual circulation of approximately 2 million items. LibLime will be providing the library with software installation, data migration, and ongoing support services.
"We are convinced that open-source products provide greater functionality and control over what we can do with an ILS system," says Dan Landry, Director of IT for the library. "The ILS world is in turmoil right now. Systems have decreased in number, especially in terms of offerings for public libraries."
SCPL has made productive use of open-source tools for the past eight years, and choosing the open-source Koha was a natural next step. "An open-source system also allows us a greater opportunity to be designers and contributors of the tools we use daily," continues Dan. "Public libraries and open-source share a common vision of the importance of free and open access to information."
The library plans to actively participate in the rapidly growing Koha community: "It is also important to us to participate in the growth of open source within the library community," says Dan. "We are excited to be working with LibLime and hope to further the development of Koha jointly with other LibLime clients."
SCPL has selected LibLime's turnkey Koha ZOOM Appliance solution together with ongoing annual support and maintenance. SCPL is slated to go live in Fall 2008.
About Santa Cruz Public Library
The Santa Cruz Library System serves all of Santa Cruz County except the City of Watsonville, which has an independent Library. It is funded by local property and sales taxes. The library has approximately 235,000 titles in its collection and 61,000 active borrowers. SCPL seeks to provide its patrons with a high level of access to materials in both their collection and to the rapidly growing resources on-line. To do so, they strive to move quickly to adopt new technologies and capitalize on the data available in their system.
