Berkeley, CA--January 17, 2008. Berkeley Electronic Press (bepress) is pleased to announce that the libraries of Illinois Wesleyan University and Marquette University (WI) have signed contracts with bepress for Digital Commons. In addition, both institutions are implementing bepressís SelectedWorks, a platform for building individual faculty pages. SelectedWorks and Digital Commons are integrated, enabling migration of authorsí works from the faculty page to the repository.
Janice Simmons-Welburn, Dean of the University Library at Marquette University, stated: "Digital Commons offers the best document repository solution on the market. Functionality, services such as mail lists, e-journal publication modules, alerting services, data feeds and conference management workflows, excellent customer service and bepressís understanding of scholarly communication and research are the many reasons that we chose to partner with Digital Commons."
Karen Schmidt, University Librarian at Illinois Wesleyan University, explained why they chose bepressís Digital Commons: "Bepress has the ability to gather together our student and faculty work, enabling us to build a digital site that reflects all facets of our university life. We expect to build a repository that includes not only the intellectual and cultural output of our campus, but also our university history and archives. Bepress offers a robust service that will let us include the works of alumni as well as current students, and gives us the ability to reach out to prospective students and faculty as well. This significantly expands our technology infrastructure and gives us the opportunity to work with a company that is responsive to our needs."
"We are extremely pleased to be working with these institutions," said Aaron Edlin, bepress Chairman. "The decision taken by these institutions confirms that Digital Commons is the best option for libraries to showcase faculty and student scholarship as well as the activities of the institution itself."
