Emeryville, CA—Fairfield University has selected the Encore discovery services platform and will implement it as a front-end to their Unicorn (SirsiDynix) library automation system. To date, over 70 libraries have selected Encore including those using Aleph, Millennium, Unicorn and VoyagerILS systems.
"My first exposure to Encore was at ACRL 2007," says Joan Overfield, Director of Library Services. "It was an easy-to-understand and well-designed interface, as well as a new approach to discovering library resources. Since that time, our staff made a very extensive evaluation of the new discovery tools on the market. Encore was by far ahead of the game in terms of the suite of options and the cross-platform potential with our ILS.
"Our reference staff are also very excited by the great possibilities of serving students and faculty with a different approach that Encore offers and they look forward to maximizing usage of our resources through an improved discovery process."
Encore was the right choice to meet the challenge of providing service for today's university student. "Encore is easy to understand like other web tools students use. Everyone knows they go to Google. That's the way they search. Although we've given them the ability to search our databases and make more complex searches, we know they like single-term searching as well."
"Fairfield University is our first development partner using Unicorn and our 31st Encore development partner overall," says Senior Product Manager Dinah Sanders. "We're very pleased to welcome them to the variety of libraries contributing to the product. It's exciting for libraries to leverage their existing efforts at gathering, selecting, and cataloging information into a more unified and simple discovery interface. We welcome them to the partnership and applaud their forward-looking service programs."
