Thorofare, N.J. – March 23, 2007 – Checkpoint Systems, Inc. (NYSE: CKP), a leading provider of technology-driven patron services for libraries, today announced the North American expansion of its Patron Services Division. This new group is charged with the development of patron-focused products and services for libraries, complementing Checkpoint's traditional security business, as libraries evolve to meet the increasingly diverse needs of their patrons in the 21st century.

The Checkpoint Patron Services Division expanded the scope of what was formerly the Library Division at Checkpoint. In addition to several new product development initiatives it will carry out, Patron Services will continue to market, implement and support all of the traditional security based products sold by Checkpoint to libraries, with a special focus on how those products can improve the patron experience. These include Checkpoint's RFID based security products, its new Universal Self-Service platform, the DiscMate digital media security system, and the CheckPASS on-site system that automates the process of how patrons schedule time for computers and use printers.

"For nearly 40 years Checkpoint has partnered with libraries of all types and sizes to develop technology-driven solutions that improve collection management and maximize asset security," said Michael Jermyn, senior vice president and general manager of Checkpoint Patron Services. "Today's libraries stand at the forefront of serving each patron's unique needs and interests on several levels, including information solutions, professional research expertise, access to cultural programs and even entertainment. The mission we have begun throughout the US and Canada is to become the library profession's partner in syndicating products, services and third-party relationships that enable them to better serve their ‘patrons as customers' in the 21st century."

According to Jermyn, Checkpoint Patron Services will continue to embrace the "library as place" concept and celebrate the role of libraries as destinations where members of the community meet for rewarding experiences that connect to their needs and interests. The new group has been expanding Checkpoint's ability to support the library community by introducing products and services that enable libraries to help their patrons self-direct certain activities within the library that support their unique information and entertainment needs.

"Many of our library customers have been telling us that their patrons are increasingly diverse in their individual needs and interests, which is why so many of them now offer more targeted programs such as public resources and information to help small business owners flourish," said Jermyn. "To effectively serve the breadth of community needs on a one by one patron basis, today's libraries demand a growing array of products, services and partnerships that are more focused on patrons as consumers in their local communities."

Jermyn joined Checkpoint in 2006, recruited a team of talented managers with experience both inside and outside of the library profession, and began an expansion of the group's new product development and customer service efforts. The result of increasing the group's mission to include patron and community partner based marketing services -- in addition to Checkpoint's traditional expertise in security -- was a very successful year in 2006 for both Checkpoint and its library customers.

George Off, chairman and CEO of Checkpoint Systems, Inc. stated that "I am excited about continuing our leadership in RFID based security within the library industry, while increasing our ability to assist libraries with their core mission in the community; serving the needs and interests of their patrons."

"While 2006 was a successful year for our group, we are now introducing a series of new patron-focused products for libraries that we believe will help libraries meet the growing demand for an enhanced patron experience," said Jermyn. "Our goal is to provide our clients with capabilities that have the potential to revolutionize the way libraries in North America deliver services and experiences to their patrons."
