AquaBrowser, the world leader in visual faceted search that connects to any number of data sources, announces it will go live in Amsterdam and Eindhoven Public Libraries in The Netherlands. The Dutch National Library Association is jointly developing this project with Medialab Solutions, which will eventually make My Discoveries the new social library platform for ten libraries systems in the country by the end of the year. My Discoveries is the new Social Library Experience found in AquaBrowser, by Medialab Solutions. My Discoveries gives the user space to contribute their own knowledge and opinions on library materials and services. This experience is beneficial for patrons and librarians alike; by reviewing, tagging and networking the user takes an active role in the catalog. Everyone in the community can contribute and share their knowledge through AquaBrowser.
"When I was first told about My Discoveries I realized that this was exactly what we had been looking for. We library professionals have been discussing web 2.0 and how to keep the library relevant in recent years around the world. With My Discoveries we allow the community to become directly involved with the library collection and we give the individual the power to create his or her own personalized collection within the library," stated Friso Visser, Director of Bibliotheek.nl, the online segment of the Dutch National Library Association.
The entire Dutch National Library Association implemented AquaBrowser throughout the organization several years ago, making the Netherlands the biggest instant market for the product. With My Discoveries, the Dutch libraries will remain at the forefront of library technology and customer service.
"To have several libraries as development partners is great, but to jump off with a new service or product with this many new customers instantly is fantastic. We are very proud to service the Dutch library market and thrilled that these libraries will be the launch point for My Discoveries. We are truly convinced that making it possible for such a level of user interaction, where libraries have always been very ‘professional-focused', will turn then industry on its head. All users will demand these features in their library once they've tried My Discoveries out," said Bastiaan Zwaan, CEO of Medialab Solutions headquartered in Amsterdam.
Taco Ekkel – Director of Development, who is overseeing the development of My Discoveries said, "I know that this is what libraries have been asking for with the ‘2.0 Movement' and it's so great that we get to launch it in our own country. We have worked very hard to get this one right and we are all thrilled to see it go live. I think once the US library market sees what we're doing live, it's going to change the game entirely."
My Discoveries will make its live debut in Amsterdam and Eindhoven in Q4 of 2007, with additional libraries joining before the end of the year.
