Emeryville, CA—Innovative announced today that Clare County Library in the Republic of Ireland has selected Innovative's Millennium integrated library technology platform. Another first for this technologically forward-looking library, Millennium will bring community features to the online catalog, as well as special digital collections and an Irish language interface to WebPAC Pro. These new additions are the latest milestones in the Library's technology firsts such as creation of the first online catalog and virtual library in the Republic of Ireland.
"It was obvious from the demonstration by Innovative staff that Millennium had been designed by librarians for libraries," says Information Services Librarian Anthony Edwards. "Every query we had was anticipated and answered in the system Innovative delivers. The full integration of Millennium is exemplified by the ability to globally update our database and easily extract meaningful statistics."
Millennium will enable the Library to provide new kinds of features to its patrons, including community participation and in-context links to resources in their local collection. Says Edwards: "Our entire staff was very impressed by WebPAC Pro features such as Patron Ratings, as well as products like Community Reviews and Pathfinder Pro. As an example, with Pathfinder Pro, when someone is discovering books on railways in our catalog, in the context of their search terms they will also be presented with the photography resource we have on the subject. We are also delighted to be able to work with an Irish language version of our online catalog for the first time."
Innovative's track record was another consideration in the selection of Millennium. As County Librarian Noel Crowley states: "A company with a proven history like Innovative, and a customer base that includes sites that we already look to as examples of excellence in the delivery of library services, such as Malmo Public Library (Sweden) and Helsinki Public Libraries (Finland), give us a high level of confidence that we will work in partnership for many years to come." Crowley also praises the forward-looking mentality of the Clare library team and looks forward with confidence to the future partnership with Innovative.
The selection by Clare County Library is part of consistent growth of Innovative's partnerships across all parts of the UK and Irish library communities, which also include recent selections by Aston University and Wigan and Leigh College.
