Abstract: To assist librarians in tracking e-journal changes, EBSCO has launched its data-rich E-Journal Updates feature within EBSCONET.

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama, U.S.A. -- September 12, 2007 --To assist librarians in tracking e-journal changes, EBSCO has launched its data-rich E-Journal Updates feature within EBSCONET.

With E-Journal Updates, librarians have a collection-specific knowledge source they can quickly put to use to make sure they're taking advantage of all access opportunities available.

With E-Journal Updates, library staff can:

  • review titles where format or pricing options have changed and indicate preferred format for renewal
  • view an archived history of changes made via E-Journal Updates
  • receive notification when an online version of a current print subscription becomes available
  • identify journals that have changed in publisher
  • view new open access titles that are added to EBSCO's title database
  • identify titles that have been added to or removed from e-journal packages purchased through EBSCO.

The alerting system can also notify customers via RSS.

"E-Journal Updates is easy to use," said Cindi Parker Sandridge, serials specialist in Technical Services at James Madison University. "And as we do not always receive notification from publishers when they change pricing and/or formats, I believe it will benefit the library community by allowing us to know what our options are and choose the best format for our patrons."

"E-Journal Updates is an exciting addition to EBSCONET because it allows us to proactively inform customers about important changes to their e-journal collections, which is a request we receive often," said Rebecca Day, manager of e-resource services development, EBSCO Information Services. "This first release is just the beginning; we will continue to enhance this service in the coming months, adding additional information to help our customers manage e-resources purchased through EBSCO."
