Provo, Utah, August 1, 2007 - SirsiDynix, the global leader in strategic technology solutions for libraries, announced today that San Diego Public Library, with funding provided by the California State Library, has purchased the SchoolRooms Web-based learning portal. The library will make this resource available to all residents of San Diego, the eighth largest U.S. city. SchoolRooms users, including students, parents and teachers, will have access to thousands of online educational resources organized around school curriculum. Plans are to implement SchoolRooms in time for the 2007-08 school year.

The San Diego Public Library will work closely with the Unified School District of San Diego to promote the usage of SchoolRooms in the school systems. This program is an outreach initiative to the K-12 community, facilitating communication among parents, schools and librarians.

SchoolRooms is a state-of-the-art Web site designed to help students explore, discover and learn, and it also features resources for parents and teachers. SchoolRooms integrates thousands of pages of multimedia content, Web links, other resources and powerful search capabilities - all organized around the K-12 curriculum. In subject-oriented "virtual rooms" of hand-selected content, SchoolRooms visitors find the relevant resources and knowledge that meet their needs, whether for writing a research paper, understanding new concepts or delving deeper into an area of special interest. The SchoolRooms parent guide is a tool parents can use to help their children learn outside the classroom.

"We are pleased to offer SchoolRooms to students as an additional resource to help them achieve success with their homework," said Anna Tatár, director of the San Diego Public Library. "It is a great complement to our online 'Live Homework Help.' We are working closely with the San Diego Unified School District to make more students, parents and teachers aware of these valuable resources."

Susan Hildreth, the state librarian of California, said: "I look forward to seeing the exciting collaboration between school and public libraries that SchoolRooms can foster. Resources abound for our students - we just want to make sure they know where and how to find them!"

Gary Rautenstrauch, chief executive officer for SirsiDynix, said: "SchoolRooms helps students make sense of the overwhelming number of resources available to them by presenting relevant, high-quality information in context so they can find the right information when they need it. It provides a way for students to explore virtually any curriculum-based topic online with an interface they are accustomed to using on the Web, and in a safe environment: any time and anywhere. Because it is Web-based, SchoolRooms is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

"This initiative by San Diego Public Library is exciting because it represents a unique partnership with the schools and the community. This is an excellent example of how SirsiDynix is partnering with our clients to create a future in which libraries play a more strategic role in their communities - bringing knowledge in all its forms to real people to meet real needs."
