May 16, 2007 -- Emeryville, CA—Innovative Interfaces announced the convocation of the fifteenth annual Innovative Users Group (IUG) Conference in San Jose, California. Held from May 14th - 17th, over 1,700 library professionals from Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and the Americas will participate in over 150 programs presented by their colleagues and by staff from Innovative Interfaces. Attendees of the annual meeting will present best practices for using Innovative products, report on creative and unique implementations of technology, and report on partnerships with the Innovative product development team.
The conference begins with opening remarks by Jerry Kline, Chairman and CEO of Innovative Interfaces, who will discuss how Innovative's product evolution has delivered the benefits of technology integration to libraries and library users, from the foundation of Millennium to the new Encore discovery services platform. The keynote speaker of the conference is Robert X. Cringely, a best selling technology author and PBS personality. IUG Chair Corey Seeman, Director of University of Michigan's Krege Business Library, also addresses the attendees at the opening session to provide an update on the IUG organization to its members.
From its inception, the IUG has been an independent organization dedicated to serve as a forum to stay involved with the development of the company's products and services, gather and spread information on the use of Innovative tools, and foster relationships and communication between all concerned. Incoming Chair Nancy Fleck, Assistant Director for Technical Services and Information Technology at Michigan State University, says: "Once again the users of Innovative's products have come forward to offer their time and expertise that allows IUG to offer the variety and range of sessions at this conference. We are excited that the conference continues to grow every year and that consistently we hear it is the best conference many members will attend each year."
Innovative's presence includes over 50 Innovative staff members from service, product development, product management, and the senior management team.
About the IUG
The Innovative Users Group (IUG) was formally organized in 1991 as an international organization of member libraries that use Innovative Interfaces' integrated library software products. It is an independent organization from Innovative Interfaces. The IUG is led by the Steering Committee whose members are elected by the general membership. It consists of a Chair, Vice Chair/Chair Elect, Past Chair, Secretary/Treasurer, and four Members at Large. All members of the Steering Committee volunteer their services to the organization. In addition to archiving all conference presentation materials, the IUG maintains a web site (www.innovativeusers.org) that also includes an Online Clearinghouse of member-developed resources including tutorials, scripts, training documents, and promotional materials. These resources represent a level of customer involvement and support unmatched in the library technology arena.
