Inmagic offers bilingual French/English version of its popular Genie ILS application

Abstract: Inmagic announced that a bilingual French/English version of its Inmagic Genie Web-based integrated library system will be available in mid-2007. As a result, Genie customers will have the option of using the application in either French or English on a desktop-by-desktop basis.

Woburn, MA (May 3, 2007) Inmagic, Inc., the leader in research asset management and special library applications, today announced that a bilingual French/English version of its Inmagic Genie Web-based integrated library system will be available in mid-2007. As a result, Genie customers will have the option of using the application in either French or English on a desktop-by-desktop basis.

"We believe that the bilingual capabilities will speed adoption of Genie, which has already been significant in Canada," said Paul J. Puzzanghera, Inmagic's President and CEO.

Genie is used by nearly 200 organizations worldwide to provide effective access and management for both traditional and non-traditional library materials. End users have access to a complete catalog from their desktops, and immediate access to electronic materials (PDFs, URLs, images and more) no matter where those materials or end users are located. Genie offers unparalleled flexibility for searching, reporting and configuring in order to meet the specific needs of each organization, yet requires minimal IT support. It is built as an open system, with an XML API and the ability to export data at any time in a variety of formats including MARC and XML. By providing a fully-configurable librarian's dashboard (with an up-to-date view of critical library items and the ability to directly act on those items) and "My OPAC" functionality that enables end users to be more self-sufficient, Genie frees time for librarians to leverage their professional expertise.

French/English Genie will be available worldwide but meets a particular need in Canada, where many implementations require bilingual support. "This new bilingual interface indicates Inmagic's commitment to providing products geared towards the needs of the Canadian market. Organizations with a Canada-wide presence will now be able to use a common integrated library system to provide an efficient Web-based service to their clients," noted Kathy Bryce, co-founder of Andornot Consulting Inc., a Vancouver-based Canadian Inmagic Business Partner. Apart from the language flexibility, this version of Genie offers the same functionality that has prompted many Canadian organizations to implement it including Women's College Hospital, Klohn Crippen Berger Ltd., Golder Associates Ltd., St. Joseph's Health Care Centre, WorkSafeBC and Farris, Vaughan, Wills & Murphy LLP.
