Abstract: The State Library of Ohio's Serving Every Ohioan Library Center will use TLC's AuthorityWorks for dynamic authority control and update processing.

INWOOD, WV, March 26, 2007- The State Library of Ohio's Serving Every Ohioan (SEO) Library Center will use TLC's AuthorityWorks for dynamic authority control and update processing.

AuthorityWorks includes cataloging and automatic authority control capabilities with integrated access to national authority files. It allows staff to easily manage the authority control process, while eliminating the need to send authority files to an outside vendor for updating. AuthorityWorks will integrate into the SEO Library Center's cataloging

workflow for maximum process efficiency.

At the SEO Library Center, AuthorityWorks will handle and "clean" a large amount of bibliographic records daily, records that would otherwise carry outdated authority headings. "We are a consortium of 71 library systems in Ohio with 5.2 million items in our database," commented SEO Library Center Director Christine Tucker. "Each day approximately 250 new bibliographic records come into our database. We were looking for an authority control solution that would send items through the authority control process BEFORE they entered our database. We also wanted a system in which staff time was not spent gathering big files from our database to FTP them to another location for monthly or quarterly authority control updates."

"We feel that AuthorityWorks will give us authority control in as close to real time as is currently possible with the least amount of staff intervention required," Ms. Tucker said.

AuthorityWorks is designed to work with any library automation system. The SEO Library Center will use AuthorityWorks with a Sirsi/Dynix system.
