LONDON, Jan. 29, 2007 – SirsiDynix, the global leader in strategic technology solutions for libraries, announced today that John Cabot University in Rome, Italy, has selected the SirsiDynix Horizon Library Management System to replace its current system. When fully implemented, Horizon will manage all technical and public services for the university's library system.
Elisabetta Morani, librarian at the university's Frohring Library, said, "We decided to move to a new automation product because we wanted a standard, up-to-date library system. We compared different products and chose Horizon because of a combination of factors, including colleagues' advice, the reliability of the company, the price, the online module for Circulation and the HIP (Horizon Information Portal) module."
Staff and borrowers will benefit from the Horizon Acquisition module because in the past the
acquisition procedure was not integrated with the catalogue, according to Morani. Staff will also benefit from a simpler, uniform and better organized procedure – faculty will be able to follow the acquisition process through the information portal. All library users will also appreciate the broad range of information the portal can host and the possibility to check their loans on their account. They will receive email notifications for fines and overdue materials.
In addition to the library's "core" borrowers, which include students, faculty members and staff members, alumni and other external guests visit the library. Peter Gethin, SirsiDynix managing director for Europe, Middle East and Africa, said, "Being selected by John Cabot University-Rome is an exciting tribute to the power and functionality of the Horizon Library Management System. We are pleased with the opportunity to help John Cabot University adopt the advanced technology that will provide efficiency and ease of use for faculty, students and staff at the Frohring Library."
