Abstract: Libraries make tremendous investments in computer technology. Not only do large amounts of library funds go toward the purchase of computer equipment, but vast amounts of staff time go toward the production of data. It is critical that libraries take all measures possible to protect these investments. Computer security involves the implementation of hardware, software and methodologies that protect against data loss from unwanted malicious attack, accidental corruption or destruction, or equipment failures. Libraries must incorporate adequate security features into the design and architecture of the computer systems and networks they employ. This article focuses on designing a library network to maximize security.
