Abstract: The Appalachian College Association will add the holdings of four institutions to its central catalog: Carson-Newman College, Milligan College, University of the South, and Virginia Intermont College.

Emeryville CA—The Appalachian College Association (ACA) will add the holdings of four institutions to its central catalog: Carson-Newman College (Tennessee), Milligan College (Tennessee), University of the South (Tennessee), and Virginia Intermont College. Once implemented, the size of the union catalog will almost double, increasing from approximately 775,000 bibliographic records to 1.6 million. Three of the four organizations are currently using Innovative's Millennium integrated library technology platform, while Carson-Newman migrates to Millennium from a Galaxy system provided by Polaris Library Systems, Inc.

"We're excited that our catalog is growing and that our collaboration is getting even stronger," says Tony Krug, Director of the ACA's William G. Bowen Central Library of Appalachia. "In a region that is as large as Appalachia, that includes libraries of different sizes, it's especially important to have a reliable system like Millennium to bring them all together."

Says Dianne Schaefer, Catalog and Systems Librarian at Bowen Central Library: "I appreciate the functionality and flexibility of Millennium, which allows for the continued growth of the shared system. It also retains an individual system feel with features like scoping, separate accounting and serial units, circulation option groups, and multiple IP support for Web Access Management (Millennium's integrated authentication product)."

The founding members of the central catalog are Alderson-Broaddus College (West Virginia), Alice Lloyd College (Kentucky), Davis and Elkins College (West Virginia), Ferrum College (Virginia), Hiwassee College (Tennessee), Lindsey Wilson College (Kentucky), Maryville College (Tennessee), Ohio Valley University (West Virginia), Tennessee Wesleyan College, Union College (Kentucky), University of Charleston (West Virginia), and University of the Cumberlands (Kentucky).
