Old Brookville, NY, April 17, 2006— The Indiana Cooperative Library Services Authority (INCOLSA) has launched a custom WebFeat Search Prism solution for INSPIRE, The Indiana Virtual Library. INCOLSA, whose member institutions represent more than 2,200 libraries throughout Indiana, operates INSPIRE which provides access to nearly 10,000 magazines, as well as almanacs, encyclopedias, newspapers, and other information to all residents of Indiana. WebFeat enables residents of Indiana to simultaneously search any or all of the INSPIRE databases, including the Indiana Shared Library Catalog, using a single intuitive interface. The INSPIRE databases can be accessed from within any Indiana library, or they may be accessed remotely at http://www.inspire.net.
"The addition of WebFeat allows us to more effectively organize INSPIRE resources for greater ease of use by Indiana residents," commented Margaret Mohundro, INCOLSA – Director of INSPIRE. "The new INSPIRE WebFeat interface assists users by directing them to topics of interest and enabling them to receive more targeted and appropriate search results. WebFeat enhances the value of INSPIRE resources by helping users to more efficiently access the wealth of information available on any particular subject."
WebFeat is a key component of the newly upgraded INSPIRE website which is to be unveiled to the public at The Indiana Library Federation (ILF) Annual Conference in Indianapolis, April 11-13, 2006. The custom designed WebFeat interface is seamlessly embedded within the INSPIRE website. The WebFeat interface replicates the look and feel of the INSPIRE site and complements the site's "Go Where the Experts Go" theme. Users can search multiple databases by selecting subject categories—pre-populated with appropriate databases selected by the INSPIRE staff—or by selecting individual resources from an A-Z list of all available resources. Users are then presented with a variety of options to sort and save search results, including viewing full text results from thousands of resources. "INCOLSA's goal is to ensure that users find the INSPIRE site intuitive, understandable, and easily accessible. We think that incorporating WebFeat into INSPIRE accomplishes that," added Mohundro.
INCOLSA Executive Director Michael Piper stated "By making INSPIRE even easier to use, WebFeat directly supports our efforts to help Indiana librarians make quality information convenient for all Hoosiers. INCOLSA is delighted to work with WebFeat to provide this higher level of service for our state. It's all part of our continuing efforts to reinforce the key role Indiana librarians play in today's knowledge economy."
"WebFeat is pleased to team with the INCOLSA statewide system to bring federated searching to thousands of libraries and millions of residents throughout the state of Indiana," commented Todd Miller, President of WebFeat. "Incorporating WebFeat into INSPIRE ensures Indiana residents easy access to the wealth of information resources that the state already provides for them."
The launch of the INCOLSA WebFeat system has an additional benefit to all INCOLSA member libraries. WebFeat offers significantly discounted pricing to INCOLSA member libraries wishing to incorporate federated searching for all of their local resources beyond the INSPIRE databases. "With this discounted pricing from WebFeat, libraries are realizing thousands of dollars in cost avoidance, which benefits Indiana libraries and Indiana taxpayers," said Mohundro. Indiana libraries that have currently integrated custom WebFeat systems locally include: Allen County, Evansville Vanderburgh, Johnson County, Lake County, Muncie and Vigo County public libraries.
