April 13, 2006 -- Amsterdam, NL. Kennisnet Davindi, the primary Dutch search engine for education, has gone live in its most advanced form yet. Using AquaBrowser technology created by Medialab Solutions, Davindi performs searches like no other search engine. Since its launch more than 30,000 queries per day have been performed.
The Kennisnet Davindi site was created by 'Kennisnet', the Internet organization for primary, secondary and professional education in The Netherlands. The organization's primary objective is to create virtual space for learning and educational processes. Davindi was established in 2004 and now connects over 42,000 examples of categorized information sources to the teaching community, its pupils and even parents, in one location.
The information found in Kennisnet Davindi is not searchable by other search engines. Instead of simply scouring the World Wide Web, Kennisnet Davindi is a collection of specifically chosen websites, along with databases of audio and video files, including special articles and academic films. The level of education can be chosen from all levels or a specific one, such as primary.
The site includes a homepage menu with levels of education divided into classifications to assist the user in steering the direction of their search before the initial search is performed. Within a single search the AquaBrowser Word Cloud gathers associations from anywhere within the Kennisnet Davindi network. It not only creates associations for the user to discover information he would not normally see, but information he may not have known was relevant at the beginning of the search. Kennisnet Davindi can be used in both Dutch and English languages, which can be selected in the Refine menu. The Refine menu further allows the user to select format, target audience and purpose of the needed information.
"AquaBrowser technology allows you use metadata for searching, providing you with richer, brilliant results. We purposely minimized the AquaBrowser visual elements in Kennisnet Davindi with the intention of creating a simplistic, easy-to-use layout. We really wanted to prove that AquaBrowser technology can be used in a totally different manner that what you normally see and still be great, and I believe we've achieved this by leaps and bounds," stated Jan-Kees Meindersma, Davindi Project Manager.
"I am proud to see that AquaBrowser technology that has succeeded in libraries works just as well in education. Davindi's users have seized the AquaBrowser search functions with ease and in amazing numbers," said Medialab Solutions Director of Product Management, Jasper Kaizer.
