Medialab Solutions BV proudly revealed its newest break-through in AquaBrowser Library with a search technology that completely integrates any subscripted and external source with the local catalog. What is completely new is the seamless integration of the results from external sources (such as electronic subscriptions, online databases and periodicals) using the familiar and proven AquaBrowser Library -- Search, Discover, Refine -- design principles. Associations that are instantly derived from the external sources now appear in the 'word-cloud', and the user can now refine on external sources.
AquaBrowser Library presents the user with results they would have never seen before within a conventional library search. In many libraries external sources can be hidden because they are in an obscure menu, or the information is only accessible through a different, sometimes difficult-to-use search tool. AquaBrowser Library now brings it all to the user instantly in a single search. By showing more sources AquaBrowser Library is helping the user in the quest for the best information without superseding the library's catalog and local sources.
The Dutch WSF (Regional Academic Back-office) Libraries that are already using AquaBrowser Library (7 in total) will be the first to implement this new AquaBrowser Library technology. Coupled with the WSF Libraries' subscripted sources, the reach of AquaBrowser Library's search goes deeper and extends further than ever before.
At the NVB Congress on November 24, Medialab Solutions successfully demonstrated this new technology by opening up the online databases provided by OCLC PICA, using their excellent implementation of the SRW/SRU standard. The first WSF Library to go live with this ground-breaking search technology will be the Eindhoven Public Library, which coincidentally was also the first library to use AquaBrowser Library. The demonstration site can be seen at http://wsf.medialab.nl.
The enthusiasm from information professionals who witnessed the first demonstrations at the NVB-Congress proved that this will be a highly sought-after product that takes the evolution of library search for patrons to a new level. Medialab Solutions is thrilled to bring this new product to the library market.
The fully integrated meta-search technology in AquaBrowser Library will be unveiled to the US and Canadian library markets at the American Library Association Mid-Winter Conference in Texas at the end of January 2006 with exclusive North American partner, The Library Corporation.
With this next-generation of AquaBrowser Library, Medialab Solutions continues its commitment to bring the best search solutions to the global library market.
