Old Brookville, NY, November 15 , 2005 — Brooklyn Public Library, the fifth largest public library system in the United States, has launched "Brooklyn Info Bridge," a custom-designed federated search solution powered by WebFeat. Brooklyn Info Bridge replaces the library's previous federated search product with a state-of-the-art, custom-branded search system designed to library specifications. WebFeat's patented technology enables Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) users to simultaneously search any or all of the more than 70 electronic resources offered by the library – including the library's catalog.

"BPL's new partnership with WebFeat will change the way people experience the Library," said Ginnie Cooper, Executive Director, Brooklyn Public Library. "With WebFeat's innovative technology powering Brooklyn Info Bridge, library users will be able to access the information they need faster— and easier."

Brooklyn Info Bridge can be accessed at over 850 Internet connected computer terminals throughout the BPL system, including computers located at the Central Library, Business Library, and all 58 neighborhood locations. Users with a valid Brooklyn Public Library card may also access Brooklyn Info Bridge remotely from any internet connected computer (by visiting the library's website www.brooklynpubliclibrary.org). Most importantly, WebFeat is compatible with all of the Library's online databases which include many foreign language sources. This is important because BPL serves one of the most diverse communities in the world—the 2.5 million residents of Brooklyn. "WebFeat opens up a whole new world of information for Brooklyn Public Library users," said Anne Candreva, Chief Information Officer, Brooklyn Public Library. "The technology makes it much easier for them to access all of our electronic resources whether at a neighborhood library or anywhere in the world."

Barbara Genco, Director of Collection Development for BPL, added, "Brooklyn Public Library's new partnership with WebFeat provides our users with 1-click, fast, easy access to over millions of pages of electronic content. Brooklyn Info Bridge, powered by WebFeat, introduces people to all of our online databases—currently over 70 resources. And it gives people access to information they didn't even know we had before."

Though custom-configured to library specifications, the entire implementation schedule for Brooklyn Public Library's WebFeat system took just 60 days from contract signing to system launch. Candreva commented, "With little direct interaction with the staff of BPL, WebFeat customized Brooklyn Info Bridge so that it is seamlessly integrated within our existing website. Brooklyn Info Bridge maintains the same look and feel of our website so users can easily navigate between Brooklyn Public Library's main website and Brooklyn Info Bridge without realizing that they are using a separately hosted application." Because WebFeat hosts and maintains the search system no BPL staff resources are needed to keep Brooklyn Info Bridge operating.

"Brooklyn Public Library is one of the largest and most prestigious library systems in the world. We at WebFeat are proud to partner with BPL to bring this state-of-the-art search technology to the 2.5 million residents of Brooklyn," commented Todd Miller, President, WebFeat.
