SYRACUSE, New York, August 8, 2005 – Three Iowa community colleges have selected the hosted version of the Polaris Integrated Library System to replace their existing GALAXY systems, Polaris Library Systems announced today. Northwest Iowa Community College, Southeastern Community College and Southwestern Community College will each go live on Polaris ILS within two months of contract signing.
The three community colleges will receive hosted technical support, hosted system administration, conversion of their data from GALAXY to Polaris and onsite training.
"For GALAXY libraries, Polaris Hosted is the fastest, easiest, most affordable way to upgrade to advanced technology," said Bill Schickling, Polaris Library Systems' president and CEO. "The low annual cost of Polaris Hosted means most GALAXY libraries will pay about the same or less than they now pay for GALAXY maintenance – and they'll be getting so much more functionality for staff and patrons." Schickling also said that in most cases for smaller libraries the five year costs for Polaris Hosted will be significantly lower than installing and managing Polaris ILS at the library site.
With Polaris Hosted the library pays an annual fixed price and a per license fee for staff client licenses. The base price for Polaris Hosted includes server hardware and software; data migration; onsite subsystem training; standard Polaris ILS support; System Administration services; and customization of the Polaris PowerPAC through System Administration.
Schickling said that the major benefit for these libraries was eliminating the burden associated with acquiring new hardware. "These three libraries were looking for a way to upgrade to Polaris," Schickling said. "The Polaris Hosted option means they don't need technical staff to manage the day-to-day operations – we do that for them. Basically, we give them the training they need to use Polaris, we turn it on, and they're ready to go."
