POTTERS BAR, England—October 11, 2005– SirsiDynix announced today that a consortium of government libraries in Northern Ireland have chosen SirsiDynix Unicorn to provide a library management system to replace their existing systems. The Unicorn system will be installed on a Microsoft Windows server and will provide access via the SirsiDynix WorkFlows graphical user interface to Cataloguing, Authority Control, Circulation, Acquisitions, Serials Control (with electronic serials check-in), and Interlibrary Loans. SirsiDynix SmartPort cataloging utility will be used to capture data from Z39.50 sources worldwide. Access to the online public access catalog will also be available through the World Wide Web via the SirsiDynix iLink electronic library. The Northern Ireland Government Libraries will also be subscribing to SirsiDynix's DataStream, which provides enriched catalog records so that users may view, along with the records, tables of contents, book jacket images, and summaries.
The Northern Ireland Government Libraries consortium comprises six government department libraries and the libraries at three agricultural colleges, and it will be the first time that the different library catalogs will be made available to all staff.
Kirby Porter, librarian at the Business Development Service, explained that: "Unicorn was chosen because it was the product that most met our general specification and enabled us to move quickly to our stated goal of creating an electronic library for the Northern Ireland Government to meet the changing needs and expectations of our users."
