Abstract: Dynix announced that Bunbury Public Libraries and Port Pirie Public Library, both in Australia, are to migrate from the Dynix ILS to Horizon.

PROVO, Utah—July 05, 2005 - Dynix, the world's leading provider of automation technologies, solutions, and services for libraries, today announced that Bunbury Public Libraries (Bunbury, Western Australia) and Port Pirie Public Library (Port Pirie, South Australia) are to migrate from the Dynix ILS to Horizon.

Bunbury Public Library became the first Dynix customer in Western Australia when they went live in 1989, but they felt the time had come to seek a new automation system which would bring their library services fully up to date with added functionality and technology, enabling them to meet the growing demands of their users.

Sue Franklin, Project Manager of Libraries at Bunbury Public Library, said: "Migration to Horizon offered a number of advantages over going to the open market, as long as the product could exceed our stringent tests. These advantages included enabling us to continue to work with a vendor with a detailed knowledge of our database, operating style and LMS history, and one who was also familiar with old and new systems and their migration compatibilities. The continued use of familiar concepts and technologies during migration, planning and delivery was also seen as a major benefit."

Ms Franklin added: "We have been more than happy with Dynix for the past 15 years and have confidence that Horizon offers us an equally sound decision for the future. We are looking forward to Horizon's contemporary feel and enormously expanded functionality"

Bunbury Public Library will be able to offer staff and users simple customisation of screens through the Horizon Information Portal, as well as increased search options, intuitive navigation and an overall system flexibility to fit with the current library practices.

The Library provides services to 30,000 local residents, plus 50,000 in neighbouring areas. The main library provides support to 24 other libraries in the region and has a circulation of 285,000 items per year.

Port Pirie Public Library, a Dynix customer for the past 10 years, has also taken the migration path to Horizon to enable them to improve their service to customers and provide web access to their holdings.

The library felt that a supplier upgrade was the best option for them, as it would enable them to build on an existing, strong business relationship and eliminate the need to undertake a full tender process.

Pam Menadue at Port Pirie Public Library said: "Being able to access the catalogue from outside the library will be a major asset to our users. The Horizon Information Portal will also allow the library to make the collections more accessible and staff will appreciate having a Windows interface to work with when serving customers and utilising the features of the Horizon system."

Port Pirie Library serves a population of 17,000. 60% of their users are over the age of 60 and 25% are 18 year or under. The average monthly circulation for the main library is 11,000 items.

"The continuing trend for customer migrations in Australia is very encouraging," said Petros Demetriou, Dynix Vice President, Asia Pacific. "It shows us that the level of service we offer and our commitment to product development using the latest technologies, is giving our customers the confidence to stay with us. We welcome the opportunity to continue working with both Port Pirie and Bunbury Public Libraries in the year to come."
