Abstract: Sirsi Corporation announced that the Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust Libraries LMS Consortium recently chose Sirsi Unicorn to provide an integrated library management system for its four libraries. Sirsi Unicorn will replace existing Heritage and Adlib systems.

London-July 20, 2005-Sirsi Corporation announced today that the Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust Libraries LMS Consortium recently chose Sirsi Unicorn to provide an integrated library management system for its four libraries. Sirsi Unicorn will replace existing Heritage and Adlib systems.

Sirsi Unicorn will be installed with Oracle on a Sun Solaris server and will provide access via Sirsi WorkFlows staff client interface to Cataloging, Authority Control, Circulation, Acquisitions, Serials Control, and Materials Booking. Access to the online public access catalog will also be available through the Internet via the iLink electronic library.

Sirsi Unicorn is being jointly funded by the West Midlands South Strategic Health Authority, together with the four libraries, which make up the Consortium. These libraries are:

  • University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust
  • Coventry Teaching Primary Care NHS Trust
  • South Warwickshire Primary Care NHS Trust
  • Myton Hamlet Hospice

The four library services play a major role in the provision of evidence-based information for patient care across Coventry & Warwickshire. This project is a great example of partnership working in the NHS, as it will bring together the collections of some of the region's top health libraries.

Dr Humphrey Dunn, the head of Knowledge Services for University Hospitals

Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust and the lead librarian on the project, explained that: "Our libraries put the patient at the center of everything we do. Unicorn was chosen primarily to ensure that our staff and students have easy and timely access to knowledge resources. Having gained access, they are then enabled to use that knowledge for the benefit of the patients in our hospitals."
