Virginia Beach, VA — June 22, 2005 — Atlas Systems, Inc. is pleased to announce the release of the ares electronic reserve management software. The ares system is specifically designed to automate and simplify the electronic reserve operations in a library.

Describing the software development process, lead ares developer Matt Calsada noted, “The key to ares development was the initial operational review process. We surveyed several electronic reserve operations to see their workflow. With this information we created an operational flowchart, which became the basis for the software programming. Through this process, we expect for ares to provide a solid ‘out of the box' electronic reserve management program.”

ares features

The ares software has three main components. A web based instructor interface allows instructors to manage reserve materials and classes from any web browser, including creating proxy users for any or all of their courses. The web based student interface offers a variety of features to search, view, manage and review reserve items and classes. Lastly, the staff client replicates all the functionality of the web interface for instructors and students, but also allows reserve staff to search, scan, and track all aspects of the reserve process. In addition, the ares client also includes copyright tracking and management via a live link to the Copyright Clearance Center reserve pricing gateway.

The design of ares makes the software highly customizable. As Mr. Calsada noted, “One of the first things we saw in studying the reserve process at different facilities was that there were several models for dealing with items like copyright, instructor reserve postings, and even student authentication. We have tried to combine the flexibility of all of the many variables with a simple straightforward to implement interface.”

The ares software is offered as a hosted application. “Throughout the ares development process, we wanted to make it easy and fast to implement. Our experience with software hosting has been that in addition to the cost savings to the customer, they also benefit from increased uptime and a much faster implementation. In addition to just maintaining the hardware and software, we can offer more assistance in the implementation process,” said Atlas Systems president M. Jason Glover. “Our pricing and the hosting model should make ares one of the most cost effective options available for electronic reserve management.”
