Abstract: Library.Solution 3.3.5, the newest version of The Library Corporationís integrated automation system, includes many new key authority control features.

INWOOD, WV, June 21, 2005 -- Library.Solution 3.3.5, the newest version of The Library Corporation's (TLC's) integrated automation system, includes many new key authority control features.

An especially key change is the automation of important authority control functions. By automating these functions, specialized staff will be less impacted by major projects required by changes to Library of Congress Authorized headings; automation of these functions will help library staff work faster and smarter.

Newly automated processes include:

  • Automatic local authorities updating: Library staff can schedule when local authorities will be updated. They can start, monitor, and stop the update process, as well as make decisions regarding the treatment of the updates. Updates can either be stored for later staff review or automatically applied to the local database.
  • Authority verification scheduling: Library staff can now schedule authority control processing to be performed automatically. A staff member with system administrative privileges can select any or all days of the week and any time of the day to begin. The system will automate the verification of uncontrolled headings in the local database by using existing authority verification procedures and library preferences. A processing log displays either all headings verified or exceptions only.
  • Split headings: A system administrator (or other authorized user) can now automate the split heading process.
  • Other enhancements: Other enhancements have also been added, including a feature that automatically determines the type of authority record a user is adding, the inclusion of most punctuation marks in authority control, more descriptive result sets from authority searches, and improved handling of author-title combination headings.
