Abstract: Openly Informatics revealed that Google and Talis have been making use of an XML web services interface built into 1Cate, Openly''s OpenURL Link-Server product.

Bloomfield, New Jersey - June 16, 2005 - Openly Informatics, Inc. (www.openly.com) today revealed that Google and Talis have been making use of an XML web services interface built into 1Cate, Openly's OpenURL Link-Server product.

Google, (www.google.com) which recently added OpenURL linking features to its Google Scholar service, is making use of the interface to upload holdings information for libraries participating in its OpenURL linking program. Google has been using the holdings information to display OpenURL links selectively for articles available in a user's library.

Talis, (www.talis.com) an integrated library system vendor based in Birmingham, England, is using the interface to allow users of its new PRISM library catalog to see electronic journal holdings information from within the catalog interface.

"Those of us who work on the 'plumbing' of internet information systems know that XML-based web services are the essential 'pipes' that allow modern services to work together" said Eric Hellman, President of Openly Informatics. "We're excited to see other companies taking advantage of the 'plumbing' that we've built into our software. This puts library holdings information exactly where it's needed to produce the best information services possible."
