The Library division of Geac Belgium has signed a contract with the City of Geel for the re-automation of the Public Library.
Geel chose Vubis Smart software for the re-automation of its library and entrusted Geac with the task of integrating Vubis Smart with systems (which have not yet been selected) for RFID, automation of loans, electronic payments and a PC reservations system. Geac will also integrate the electronic identity card into Vubis Smart.
The web interface, WebOpac, will be equipped with VLink, Geac's openURL resolver. The Geel library has clearly demonstrated its ambition to become one of the most technologically advanced libraries in the area. To achieve its objectives, Geel has purchased the administrative modules of Vubis Smart (cataloguing, management of loans, acquisitions, periodicals and requests) for 25 simultaneous users as well as WebOpac, into which VLink will be integrated.
The library currently has 9,862 readers and 217,391 documents. Geel's choice of Geac was justified for several reasons: Vubis Smart's user-friendliness, Geac's professionalism, its diversified experience with links to other systems (such as SIP/2) and its undeniable pursuit of library market trends. The guarantee and security of a system installed in many comparable sites was also a significant factor.
