Old Brookville, NY, April 7, 2005 — Omaha Public Library has launched its PowerFind federated search solution powered by WebFeat. PowerFind enables patrons to search the Library's 55 online databases and catalog resources simultaneously with a single, intuitive search interface. Omaha Public Library serves more than 400,000 residents and records more than 1.6 million visitors annually. PowerFind is available to all patrons at the main library and all 9 branch libraries located throughout the city of Omaha. PowerFind may also be accessed remotely through the Library's website (www.omahapubliclibrary.org) by persons with a valid Omaha Public Library card.
PowerFind represents the latest technology integration between partners WebFeat and Dynix. The Omaha Public Library has been a Dynix customer since 1990, and has used the Horizon Integrated Library System since 1999. This month, WebFeat added its federated search technology to the Library's existing Dynix Information Portal. WebFeat is seamlessly embedded within the Omaha Public Library's own web pages and has been fully customized to match the existing look and feel of the Library's website.
PowerFind allows patrons to perform both basic and advanced searches with the ability to narrow searches down to full-text articles, peer-reviewed articles or limit by publication year. PowerFind also includes WebFeat's latest product features—including thesauri, save search, and dynamic results display capability.
"PowerFind is a fabulous addition to our library. Federated searching powered by WebFeat is the Holy Grail for libraries.” commented Rivkah Sass, Executive Director, Omaha Public Library. “Today libraries need to create solutions that cater more to the way our users think. WebFeat allows us to give our patrons improved access to the rich database content that our library already subscribes to. PowerFind enables us to present this information with an intuitive, user-friendly search engine that is easy to use for novice researchers, yet robust enough for advanced users."
Todd Miller, President of WebFeat, commented, “Omaha Public Library's PowerFind is not only a cutting-edge research tool for the city of Omaha, but it represents WebFeat's ability to seamlessly integrate customized federated search solutions within a library's existing technology infrastructure."
