Abstract: After an extensive review of leading federated search solutions, the Illinois Library Computer Systems Organization Board of Directors has selected WebFeat, as bid by partner Dynix, as its federated search provider.

Old Brookville, NY, April 5, 2005 - After an extensive review of leading federated search solutions, the Illinois Library Computer Systems Organization (ILCSO) Board of Directors has selected WebFeat (as bid by partner Dynix) as its federated search provider.

The ILCSO Digital Library Products Committee (DLPC) voted unanimously to approve WebFeat at the culmination of a nearly two-year process, involving a formal RFP, detailed onsite product demonstrations, and interviews with each of the vendors' references. While the RFP review was taking place, the ILCSO library directors emphasized the importance of federated searching during a priority-setting exercise at its May 14, 2004 Directors Assembly. Out of 38 items in the exercise, the federated search component ranked first.

"In its report detailing recommendations to the ILCSO Board of Directors, the DLPC stated: "The [WebFeat] demonstration showed that this is a product with a user interface that is both excellent in usability and highly customizable. Moving back and forth between the WebFeat and native interfaces is very straightforward and intuitive. The references, including two consortia and one ILCSO member library, all were very favorable in their comments, and in particular they spoke very highly of WebFeat's responsiveness and willingness to adapt their service to customer needs."

ILCSO members include 65 leading Illinois academic libraries, including the University of Illinois campuses at Urbana-Champaign and Chicago.

Todd Miller, President of WebFeat commented: "We are indeed honored to have been selected as ILCSO's federated search engine from such a distinguished field. We look forward to the deployment of a research system of the first order."
